Every year on June 14, the world celebrates World Blood Donor Day (WBDD).
Through our work with first responders, defense and military, and the broader life sciences industry, we know just how important it is to have a healthy supply of safe blood products available. Peli BioThermal’s original Golden Hour™ thermal packaging technology was developed for the U.S. Army Special Forces to transport life-saving blood to far forward combat areas. Nearly 20 years later, we provide a full range of single-use and reusable temperature controlled packaging that protects mobile blood supplies for blood banks, hospitals, emergency medical personnel and first responders.
Regular blood donations are needed to ensure individuals and communities have access to safe blood and blood products. Blood donations typically decline during the summer months, and especially around holidays like Independence Day in the United States. Yet demand does not decrease.
This year Pelican Products and Peli BioThermal hosted blood drives for employees in four locations:
- Torrance, California
- Maple Grove, Minnesota
- Albuquerque, New Mexico
- Leighton Buzzard, UK
It’s easy to get involved with a quick search of your local blood donation organization, and learn more about the importance of a safe and sustainable blood supply on the World Health Organization’s website.
