In honor of World Blood Cancer Day on May 28, Peli BioThermal worked with DKMS to host donor drives at its locations globally. In total, the organization registered 107 new, potential donors committed to helping patients who need a blood stem cell transplant to save their lives. The leader in donors registered? Peli BioThermal’s Leighton Buzzard, UK EMEA-based headquarters followed by the organization’s Albuquerque, NM manufacturing facility in the United States.
Every 35 seconds someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer. For many blood cancer patients, a blood stem cell transplant from a matched donor is their only chance for survival. Seventy percent of patients do not have a matched donor in their family and rely on people who register to be a blood stem cell donor with organizations like DKMS and Be The Match. Matching is complex, so many potential donors are needed.
